San Francisco Bay Area Core Capacity Transit Study

Name San Francisco Bay Area Core Capacity Transit Study
Description

The San Francisco Bay Area’s robust transit network is a critical element of the region’s ability to support existing communities and job centers and accommodate forecasted growth in an environmentally sustainable manner.  Demand for transit service is steadily increasing, particularly in the backbone trunk corridors that connect job centers to residential areas.

The Metropolitan Transportation Commission (MTC), in partnership with San Francisco Bay Area Rapid Transit District (BART), San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency (SFMTA), San Francisco County Transportation Authority (SFCTA), and Alameda-Contra Costa Transit District (AC Transit) outlined a strategy to perform a collaborative San Francisco Bay Area Transit Core Capacity Study.

The proposed study will evaluate and prioritize a package of investments that expand transit capacity to major Core San Francisco job centers (Downtown, Civic Center, South of Market, and Mission Bay) to account for current and forecasted job and housing growth.
